We loved attending these championships and we were lucky enough to have tickets for the final night. Our highlights include: the GB 4 x 100m women receiving their silver medals; the GB 4 x 100m men receiving their gold medals; the 5000m women’s final; the 1500m men’s final; a streaker being removed by officials; the silver medal winning GB 4 x 400m women’s team; and the GB team captain, Eilidh Doyle.
We had fabulous day at the Women’s World Cup cricket match between England and the West Indies on Saturday. Held at the County Ground in Bristol on a cloudy but mostly dry day. England batted reasonably well to set the Windies a modest target of 221 runs. Then England bowled really well to restrict their opponents to 128 for 9 and win by 92 runs. The cricket may not have been as exciting as we had hoped but the atmosphere was great – lots of vibrant Caribbean support, plus a few songs at lunch from the Rock Choir, all helped to bring some excitement to the crowd.
We spent four days and nights on a floating hotel on the Danube Delta. It is an extraordinary place. Sensational scenery, fantastic wildlife and still fairly untouched by tourism.
